Last week end in Barcelona I had to face my marital obligations, to my great happiness by accompanying my wife to the 14th One Team Awards Program provided by the Euroleague basketball in Barcelona.
Having fully accepted my mission with the biggest smile, my first idea was not to go and see if FC Barcelona was playing, because my heart leans towards Madrid (Karim Benzema for life). So I was interested in knowing what sport I could go see. Two clicks later, I learn that the most prestigious sailing competition is being held there: the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup, the “main event” as I often like to say.
But actually, what is this madness? I knew the Route du Rhum, but the more I advance in my understanding of the discipline, the more perplexed I am when I see people pedaling...
But let's start at the beginning: why is this event held in Barcelona? In Barcelona, sport is not just an activity; it is a true passion, an omnipresent fervor that permeates every aspect of daily life. The Catalan city is a place where sport transcends the boundaries of the game to become an integral part of the local cultural identity.
Apart from FC Barcelona, this passion for sport also extends to other disciplines. Marathon races, triathlon competitions and cycling events attract enthusiastic crowds who run, cycle and swim with infectious energy. Barcelona is also renowned for its quality sports infrastructure, its spaces dedicated to sport, and its international events which attract athletes and spectators from all over the world. It’s official, all the lights are green for a departure, Friday September 8, at Saint-Exupéry airport. After a quick visit to the Euroleague (thank you my darling), head to the Ramblas and the Olympic Port, in a magnificent 28 degrees. No need to tell you the different details and stops for the culinary part, because I might feel a slight feeling of nostalgia .
Here we are, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup. First impression: it’s in XXL mode, everything is carefully designed. Obviously, the renowned partners have something to do with it: Omega, Capgemini, Emirates, etc.
For the first time, I realize that it is possible to follow the race as a spectator, whether on land or at sea. Hmm ok. Another fascinating fact: the size of the boats... Mammmmma, the AC75, a one-design.
The teams, from all four corners of the globe, showcase cutting-edge technologies and innovative designs, providing a fascinating spectacle of fierce competition and maritime strategy. Visitors came from all over the world to admire the “Main event”.
Reflecting on it during the competition, I realize that Barcelona is ideal for this event, with magnificent weather and, above all, wind. Time to contemplate the whole hospitality part, and after having walked stand after stand, I attend the last race of the day. Positive experience for my general culture.
In short, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup in Barcelona is much more than a sailing competition; it is an event that celebrates the spirit of innovation, the passion for sport and the beauty of the Mediterranean. Well, 2024 was rich in sporting events that I was able to discover, apart from one area: Asia and its richness in the world of combat. To be continued.
